Deep Economy - Bill McKibben

Deep Economy by Bill McKibben is one of the most interesting and important books I’ve ever read. McKibben lays out the case for local economies with logical arguments which are backed up with statistics which show beyond a reasonable doubt that we are currently on the wrong path and anecdotes which prove that there are other paths which offer greater rewards with less real costs.

McKibben makes the case that the world cannot continue economic “growth” the same way we are now. It’s simply not ecologically possible. And he also makes the case that we shouldn’t even want to continue on that path anyway. It’s time to readdress the basic ways we think about the world. More is not always better.

I cannot recommend this book any higher. Buy it. From a local bookstore if you can. If you can’t find it locally, you can order it online from Amazon.
