The Ten Best TV Dramas of the 2000s

These are my choices for the ten best television dramas of the millennium (with first show airing in 2000 or later.)

BOARDWALK EMPIRE (2010-Present) - Set in Atlantic City during the Prohibition era. The first episode cost $18 million and was directed by Martin Scorsese.

BREAKING BAD (2008-Present) - A high school chemistry teacher gets into the meth business.

CARNIVALE (2003-2005) - This unusual show only lasted for two seasons but a lot of great stuff was packed into those two seasons. Recommended for Lost fans.

DEXTER (2006-Present) - I don’t think Dexter is nearly as good as it once was (seasons one & two in particular) but I still watch every episode. If you don’t mind the idea of a show based on a likable serial killer then check it out.

DOWNTON ABBEY (2010-Present) - Even if the idea of a British period drama (set in the 1910s) sounds terribly boring to you (it kind of did to me) give this show a chance. It’s great. There’s plenty of drama and the historical context makes it a bit educational too.

LOST (2004-2010) - The only old school network show on the list (as most network shows are terrible.) Yes, it would have been even better on HBO without the need to stretch the seasons out to 20+ episodes with filler. A lot of people don’t like the way it ended and I can understand that to some extent when a show builds you up like this it’s almost impossible not to be let down. But I’m not one of the naysayers, I liked the way it ended and thought the last season was good (although possibly not quite as good as the rest of it.)

MAD MEN (2007-Present) - Set at a NYC ad agency in the 1960s. I think the best current show is either Mad Men or Breaking Bad. Which one you prefer probably depends on whether or not you like the extreme or the subtle (Mad Men is the subtle.)

SIX FEET UNDER (2001-2005) - This show isn’t nearly as well known as it should be. Possibly the best show on this whole list. Also one of those rare shows when you almost never hear anyone say that it lost steam towards the end (its last episode is epic.)

THE WALKING DEAD (2010-Present) - This one almost didn’t make the list. I kind of think it’s not all that great really (some pretty unbelievable characters make some pretty unbelievable choices) but I still find it addictive enough that I can’t stop watching it.

THE WIRE (2002-2008) - If I had to choose just three from this list I think I could narrow it down to Six Feet Under, Mad Men, & The Wire. This is a truly epic show and I love it despite my aversion to cop shows. Of course this is not your standard cop show.

LA Hotel Deals

If you need to find the best hotel for your trip to LA then you can’t really go wrong with LA Hotel Deals.

This site really saves you a lot of time and money because it searches over 30 online hotel reservation sites for the best hotel rates on hotels in LA. If you were to manually go through and do all of those searches yourself it would take you hours but this site does it for you in seconds.

And of course if you were to do it manually there’s a good chance you would forget about some sites so you still may not end up with the best deal even after all of your hard work, so using LA Hotel Deals is really a “no brainer.” Not only does it save you a ton of time but it makes sure that you get the best deal every time.

This site also lets you sort hotels by all kinds of criteria and to only include hotels that have the features that you want. For example you can only display hotels that are pet friendly and have a pool (although that doesn’t mean they’ll let your dog swim.)

Buy Handmade Jewelry For Valentine’s Day

If you really want to make Valentine’s Day special this year you will buy your significant other unique handmade jewelry. Original one of a kind necklaces and earrings show your girlfriend or wife that you think she’s truly special and that you have put real thought into your gift this year.

Handmade jewelry isn’t necessarily very expensive either. In fact; many of the necklaces and earrings at this recommended etsy shop can be purchased for less than $30 (and some for less than $20!)

If you feel you can’t pick out a piece of jewelry your girlfriend or wife will like then you could get her a handmade jewelry gift certificate. This is a great way to show her you care while avoiding the possibility of picking out the wrong thing (if you’re like most guys you are clueless when it comes to this stuff.)
